BELLA'S MOUNTING YARD

& BROADCASTING ETHOS

For as long as she can remember, Bella has been looking at horses, but since 2016, Bella has been conducting in-depth mounting yard analysis, where she has observed, studied and followed thoroughbreds.

Bella has an inherent ability to make accurate judgements about a horse’s overall health and condition. Her keen eye for detail allows her to assess all aspects of the equine athlete with precision, focusing on a horse’s fitness, coat health, movement and behaviour.

Factoring in behavioural tendencies before forming an opinion is crucial, also understanding each individual horse and their personalities, unique characteristics and quirks.

Bella firmly believes that success in the yard is not merely a matter of ticking off boxes in a list of criteria, rather it requires getting to know each and every horse intimately.

All of these factors contribute towards Bella delivering comprehensive yard analysis whilst building an in-depth profile on every horse that she can rely upon time after time.

Her detailed database is extensive, and enables Bella to highlight when a horse is displaying uncharacteristic behaviours, what is atypical for some and typical for others, as well as when a horse usually reaches peak fitness.

Bella is a true expert in the art of assessing equine athletes in a no-nonsense way. She believes that it is essential to understand the eccentricities of each thoroughbred before one can form an opinion.

Horses like most things have good and bad days, Bella finds the horse having the best day.

Body Shaming on Twitter

Big Bella's Best

"Big Bella's Best"

I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) in 2022 after struggling with a wide array of symptoms, the most upsetting being rapid, uncontrollable weight gain.

PCOS is a complex hormonal condition and one of the most common causes of female infertility.

As a result of the sudden weight gain, I started to agonise mentally with my own body image issues. Being unhappy with the way I looked whilst being in the media and on TV for Racing.com had its own immense mental challenges.

Then, the online trolling and body shaming started on social media.

For months, I swept comments under the carpet, but countless posts from many different accounts kept flooding my social media, growing, becoming louder and feeling relentless.

I reached breaking point when I discovered an anonymous account called “Big Bella’s Best” on Twitter, which had been hurling sickening insults about my appearance and weight for weeks.

Enough was enough and I had to speak up.

My Tweetmy tweet

I received an unimaginable amount of support from members of the racing community and from those outside our industry, and within a few hours the accounts were deleted.

I understand that being in the media can result in online bullying and harassment, social media can be a dark and brutal place.

I can cop criticism of my work, I have a thick skin for anything written negatively about myself professionally, but I drew the line at my physical appearance being assaulted – this, I will never tolerate.

My weight has nothing to do with my worth, and my appearance doesn't impact my ability.
